Stamina 55-1610 InMotion E1000 Elliptical Trainer

Features
-Compact, lightweight elliptical trainer for the home or office
-Foot-pedal-only chassis fits handily under a desk or in a closet
-Low-impact design protects back, knees, hips, and ankles
-Electronic monitor tracks strides, exercise time, and calories
-Sturdy steel construction; non-slip pedals

Forget the gym. Now you can enjoy a full cardio workout in the comfort of your home or office with this compact elliptical trainer from Stamina Products. Unlike full-size ellipticals, this trainer doesn't have arms or a front console. Instead, the trainer is essentially foot pedals only, with a chassis that's small enough to store under a desk or in a closet. Despite the small size, the trainer still packs a workout wallop, letting you burn a similar number of calories as jogging but without the risk of injury to the back, knees, hips, or ankles. Just keep your feet moving on the pedals--which continually oscillate in a low-impact manner--and you're set. Other details include sturdy steel construction, non-slip pedals, and an electronic fitness monitor that tracks the number of strides per minute, total number of strides, exercise time, and calories burned.

About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.

Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Bowflex SelectTech 552 / 1090 Dumbbell Stand - Save your back. Buy these

Save your back. Buy these., March 24, 2010
By joegrind "joegrind" (Atlanta, GA)

I've had a pair of the 1090 dumbbells (90 lbs each) for about 10 months and been lifting them from the floor until now. The price finally dropped here on Amazon so I decided to pull the trigger. Trust me, if you're above 30 like me, and can't recuperate as quickly as an 18 y.o...purchase these....you'll save your back.
These are sturdy, well-made and convenient stands for your Selecttech dumbbells. The shipping carton says 45 lbs (the outer-box is marked Bowflex Stands....so if getting as a gift, have it gift-wrapped). Unlike other reviewers, I had absolutely no problem setting this up....the instructions are straightforward...they are the 'exploding-diagram' type...so maybe I'm visual like that.I recommend not taking all the washers, nuts and bolts out of the packaging....just slice the shrink-wrap to keep the bolts in their position...that way it's easy to differentiate. It comes with an allen-wrench, but you'll need a 9/16 socket for the nut-side...I recommend hand-tightening until it is fully set-up....just to make sure everything is aligned. The casters worked fine....moved it around a couple of times and no problems....but they do seem cheap compared to the rest of the Stand. If they break, I'll just use the pegs.
All in all, it's well worth it to get the stand....I just had to save up long enough after I got the dumbbells themselves.

Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells : Amazing home workout tool

Amazing home workout tool, January 27, 2009
By Ronald W. Smiley (Maryland)

I used the 552 dumbells with my P90X workout and I have to say they made life a heck of a lot easier. It couldn't be easier to select the appropriate weight with these things, and with limited time between excersizes, these were golden. The construction is sturdy; not once did I feel any uneasiness in using them. Even moves where the dumbells were lifted quickly and brought back down didn't cause any issues with the locking mechanism of the dumbells. The only slight issue is the overall length of the dumbells. The width is manageable but the length can cause a few issues in maybe 5% of the excersizes performed. An example of this is doing concentration curls with both arms simultaneously. I ended up having to alternate to get around the length of the dumbell. All in all it is quite easy to work around this small issue and it doesn't impact the 5 star rating for me especially considering that having used the block alternative as well, the bowflex ones caused a lot less issues during excersize movements.

I used these without the stand, if you do as well make sure you lift with your legs and not your back. If you have a bad back, or just want to be safe, you may want to go with the stand. (Though theres nothing wrong with a little extra leg work with the proper form ;) ) In summary, if your doing P90X, or any other home workout routine that requires you to switch weights quickly, this is the dumbell for you. Also if your going for P90X know that the 552 version covered the weight I needed for every single excersize (I'm 5'11' and 195 lean muscle). I may have been able to go heavier on a few excersizes but the sheer intensity of this workout would have limited my reps significantly. Hope this helps!

Bowflex SelectTech 552 Dumbbells : BEST DUMBELLS EVER!!!!

BEST DUMBELLS EVER!!!!, November 4, 2008
By Just "Steve" (Tampa, FL)

I was torn between these and the PowerBlock dumbells I kept reading about. I had a chance to check out the 2008 and prior model Bowflex Select Tech's at Dicks Sporting Goods, and I remember thinking about how easy it was to spin the dials to adjust the weights.

My only concern and hesitation was that a few reveiws mentioned the possibility of the weights rattling and people were worried they could fall off? I had not heard this before, so I researched it more and although the PowerBlock dumbells had gotten good reviews, I simply could not get past how ugly they were, and the fact that they used a magnetic pin to hold the weights in.

I decided to spend the few extra dollars on these 2009 model Select Techs (assuming any prior issues they may have had were corrected) and boy am I glad I did, they are AWESOME! The dials, in my opinion, are ten times easier than the magnetic pins of PowerBlocks, and these Bowflex dumbells look ten times more fashionable (our gym equipment is on our loft, so yes my wife and I have a style standard). These dumbells are about 15 inches long, but neither of us have any issues with their size (I think the PowerBlocks were only a 3 inch difference anyways).

We are 100% happier we bought these, and we bought the stand from Amazon to go with them also (it is better for your back if you lift dumbells from a standing position instead of from a squatting one). I hope you enjoy your SelectTechs as much as we enjoy ours!

Bowflex PR3000 Home Gym : More than pleased with purchase

More than pleased with purchase, March 10, 2010
By B. B. Strauss (Texas)

My husband has been wanting a home gym for quite some time. My objection was the cost and "where will we put this huge monstrosity." I did a lot of shopping and found the best price -by far- at Amazon.com. I also read the reviews and it seemed it would not take up too much space. So it was purchased and delivered quickly (free shipping). A couple of reviews said they put it together in one hour. They must be super human because it took two of us over two hours. We still felt it went quickly and are now thrilled to be using the equipment. If you are into heavy weight lifting, I agree with others that you may need to upgrade. If you are needing to tone your body and do not need 300 pounds of weight, this is perfect for you. We also purchased separately the lat bar. It is a good plus.

Bowflex PR3000 Home Gym : Nice for the Price

Bowflex PR3000 Home Gym : Nice for the Price, May 7, 2009
By Michael LaBossiere (Tallahassee, FL)

Like most people, I had seen the Bowflex commercials on TV and was skeptical of just how such a machine would produce the gods and goddesses shown in the ads. However, the idea of an all-in-one resistance machine was appealing and I often considered buying one. I finally took the plunge after undergoing quadriceps tendon repair surgery. Since my usual exercise was out of the question (running and martial arts) I decided to give the Bowflex a try. After all, I don't want to become psychotic and fat while I'm recovering. :) While I cannot do the leg exercises yet, my experience has been positive.

Pros: On the plus side, the machine provides a wide range of exercises that enable you to work almost all of the muscle groups. It was easy to assemble and comes with fairly clear directions. It also includes a basic workout book, although you will probably want to supplement this with additional information about working out. Properly assembled, the machine seems very solid and as long as you maintain it, it should provide a safe workout.

As you can see from the pictures, it has three sets of handles: one high, one middle and one low. This allows you to get a wide range of workouts and replicate most traditional free weight training moves. It also has the attachment for doing leg lifts. The seat can be easily removed to allow you to safely do standing exercises.

A major plus for this machine is that the power rods connect to all the handles. In other words, you do not need to constantly switch cable connections for your workout. Some lower end models lack this feature, which would be a bit annoying.

Cons: While the machine allows you to do a large range of exercises, it does have clear limits. For example, you can only do leg lifts with the leg exercise attachment (although you can do leg exercises using the handles). Also, it suffers the inherent limitations of a rod based machine relative to free weights. For example, the weight on the resistance rods seem rather optimistic (I suspect the weight is based on the resistance offered at maximum bend). To compare the machine with free weights, I did curls with the 50 pound rod and with a 35 pound free weight. The free weight provided far more resistance (in the form of weight). This is because the weight always weighs 35 pounds and the rod's resistance increases as it is pulled.

You will also want to spring for the 100 pound upgrade-this consists of two 50 rods. I think the rods should have been included, but I suppose that some people would be fine with the stock rods.

I'd suggest getting them when you get the machine, otherwise you'll have to take the "rod box" off the machine so as to put in the rods. Mine didn't come with instructions (just two rods and two screws in a cardboard box), but this is what I did: carefully lean the machine to one side, preferably with someone trustworthy holding it (make sure that they are not the beneficiary of your life insurance). Unscrew the three screws holding the box in place. Remove the box and take out the plugs (two of them, just ahead of the installed 50 rods). Insert the rods and screw the included screws into the rods (at the bottom). Put the rod box back in place and then screw the screws back in. Carefully test the rods to make sure they are secure, and then you are ready to go.

BOWFLEX TREADCLIMBER : TC5000 - Good workout, finding parts could be a drawback

BOWFLEX TREADCLIMBER : Bowflex TC5000 Treadclimber

Good workout, finding parts could be a drawback, May 18, 2010
By A. Rodriquez

I have a first generation Treadclimber. I'm talking truly first generation because I bought it when treadclimber was owned by "Weider" as opposed to "Bowflex". I have really been happy with the machine as it has survived several moves and wear and tear. It does produce some odd noises now in its age and I would, also, hope that finding affordable replacement parts was a little easier. I need to replace the pistons on it, but all the places I have searched are pretty expensive. It seems a little ridiculous that these parts would cost so much. The cheapest I have found them was for $[...] at [...]

If anyone has had any luck with finding cheap replacement parts or this product, I would be interested to hear what tip you might have.

BOWFLEX TREADCLIMBER : TC5000>> Sweat machine

BOWFLEX TREADCLIMBER : Bowflex TC5000 Treadclimber

Sweat machine, March 19, 2009
By Kenneth E. Earnest "Sweat machine" (Columbia, SC)

We bought this because the Dr told my wife she needed to lose 50 pounds to ensure her diabetes could be controlled. We went with the TC5000 because it has the heart monitor display built in, and we wanted to ensure we did not over do it.

The machine arrived as scheduled; assembly took about 2 hours (1 bolt missing, but I had a one that fit so was no problem). Instructions are not that clear, but if you use the pictures and think a bit before you tighten something anyone should be able to assemble this (does take two people for a couple of steps).

We watched the DVD and read the operating manual before we ever got on it; neither of us are in too fit so the first week we just went about 20 minutes in treadmill mode every other day. We have continued the every other day routine to ensure our bodies have a day of recovery. 2nd week I started with a 3 minutes of treadmill, 18 minutes of tread climber, and finishing with 3 minutes of tread mill. Wife increased her treadmill time to 25 minutes. Week 3 I am doing 3 minutes of the tread mill, 24 minutes of the tread climber, and 3 minutes of tread mill. Wife is doing 3 minutes of tread mill 15 minutes of tread climber, and 3 minutes of tread mill.

We are both very aware of the importance of keeping our heart rate in the target zone (not too low and not too high) while excercising, the speed control and the heart rate display makes this very easy to do.

Each of us has lost several inches and has experienced modest weight loss, 5 pounds for me, and 7 pounds for her in 3 weeks. Both of us feel much better and so far we each look forward to our exercise day. We have put the Tread climber right in the middle of the living room so we can watch TV, or have a conversation with each other as a routine part of our exercise. This was a very conscious decision our part to ensure it did not become out of sight, out of mind.

I would recommend this to anyone who is serious about increasing their fitness and/or losing weight.

I love this tread climber. I am a 58 yr. old man who had knee surgery a few years ago. I am in pretty good shape, but expect to get into very good shape using this Treadclimber. I get a great cardio workout. I keep my heart rate up and produce sweat for 30 min., yet I don't feel any muscle soreness or any joint pain. I feel strong, flexible and energized just 10 min. after my work out. I assembled it by myself in about 2 hrs. It was well worth the time!
